Letting go of a weight…
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based approach that helps alleviate the emotional weight of a memory. I’ve had the opportunity to become fully trained in EMDR and have integrated this in my work with clients. I’ve found that it is especially beneficial for those who have already gone through talk therapy for years and are needing support in overcoming the last “hurdle.” EMDR helps to connect the head and heart where you are able to live out the things that you’ve learned in therapy. You know you’re no longer in that place, but the emotions still come up when you are reminded of the event. EMDR helps to bridge the adult perspective you have now with the earlier perspective of the trauma.
Although exploring these memories may take time, clients often experience great relief as we navigate through various facets of their trauma. Whether the trauma is from a ‘typical’ traumatic event like a car accident or a seemingly ordinary occurrence that held significant impact in your life, EMDR can help process through the negative emotions to find a pathway of healing. I’ve had the opportunity to process through previous experiences myself and have found it to be greatly helpful!
